I've been thinking about doing a Hendrix vs Hip Hop mashup album lately but cant decide on a particular artist. Im leaning towards Eminem because hes got a bunch of material and i could call it the Slimi Mathers Experience or something like that. I'm open to suggestions so please leave some in the comments. Frankly im a bit concerned that nobody seem to like to comment....
Janis Joplin's Mercedes Benz has always been a song which resonated for me. It's just so Hip-Hop. Check out this work in progress that includes Walk It Out.
PS: From my dear mother who didn't know you could comment comes this perfect description of not only Janis Joplin but my roots:
-- Dear mly,
You know that I knew Janis Joplin and lived briefly in the same house with her (married to someone else) boyfriend (Travis Rivers). She was really nice to me. I worked at the Avalon Ballroom where Big Brother was the House Band, so I saw her a lot.
She always got involved with really creepy guys. She was a terrible drunk and used to drink cheap wine constantly. But she sure could sing!

Here's my new hip-pop club mix. strictly for the ladies :). Guys need to grow tits to make requests.
way back now in 2003 i made this 'mashup' to play at 'shizamm jizamm' and early 181 parties. i did it in an old version of 'acid' by making loops and a couple of huge samples. talk about steak with a butter knife. ultimately it worked and still gets a bit of play. i rarely do but just heard it on dj solomons 'live at slide cd'
