HECKA MILES MONDAY FEB 13TH

THIS JUST IN: We will be opening early this Monday 8pm for another 'Celebrity Servers' event featuring players from the 49ers and Raiders serving cocktails for 'Family 1st" silent auction and fashion show. $25 suggested donation but free if you mention MANIC, MILES, or MEI-LWUN. Bonus if you actually pronounce my name correctly. Regular MANIC MONDAYS MAYHEM after 11pm but come down early to support a very worthy cause.
Manic Mondays Feb 13th features one of the most talented DJs I know in the Bay and beyond, Miles Medina. Combine extremely technical looping and cutting with original song programming add a dash of panache and that pretty much describes an average Miles Medina Dj set. Dj Mei-Lwun opening as usual 9pm. No cover.

SOLOMON KAHN (DJ SOLOMON) 1977-2012

I met Solomon back in the late 90's at the DNA lounge. It was a Soulstice show and i was djing. He introduced himself to me and gave me his demo. It had a couple of songs i really liked that nobody else was playing and the mixing was tight!! I was impressed and called him. We started working on beats together.
At that time Stanton had just started to demo a "FINAL SCRATCH" the predecessor to "SCRATCH LIVE" I was on the testing team and got Solomon on the testing team too. Heand I were the some of the first DJs to use laptops in the clubs on regular basis. At about that time the American Mash-up scene was popping up here in the BAY.
Fast fwd a bit to 2002 and a club here in SF called 181 Eddy at which we both ended up being residents at. 181 Eddy is where he would meet his fiance Nicole Cronin and we along with djs Ean Golden , Zhaldee, Slick D and David Carvalho helped usher in the era of mixed bag "San Francisco Mash-Up".
A short time later he hooked up with the SERATO beta team, hooked me up and i switched systems. Soon after he would be the DJ who showed DJ AM SERATO and hooked him up too. It could be argued that Solomon was responsible in large part for popularizing DVS (Digital Vinyl Systems) which has changed Djing more in the past 10 years than anything other than beat matching or scratching itself.
Solomon was a djs DJ. Its guys like him, Super talented, creative djs who play several hour sets several days a week that at the same time make it possible for hobbyists and headliners alike to do what they do.
Amazing as he was behind the decks many friends will also remember him on the lake, or snowboard or bicycle. we have seen miles of northern cali trails, blazing downhills in marin, pacifica, skyline with our wheels of steel vs wheels of aluminum DJ MTB posse. He successfully coached me and my similarly hydrophobic wife into wake surfing our first time out with him. He was a master at having fun who's memory should be honored by embracing life like Solomon seemed to every day! I can honestly say that he had more awesome days on the mountain, afternoons on the lake and dj sets in the club than most people could ever hope to. My heart goes out to his family in this terribly tragic time.

UPDATE!! You can make a donation to the family to help cover solomon's memorial and nicole's recovery here: SOLO & NIC FUND
